Review by hotel critic
During my recent visit to Penang, I had the pleasure of staying at Island Hostel, which proved to be a delightful base for my explorations. Conveniently located just 10 km from Penang International Airport, the hostel's welcoming atmosphere was enhanced by the clean, air-conditioned rooms equipped with essential amenities, including free WiFi-a must for both leisure and academic research. One standout feature was the inviting shared lounge that fostered a sense of community among travelers, allowing for engaging conversations about local history and culture. The self-service kitchen was fully stocked, which made it easy for me to prepare light snacks after long days of cycling through the area's fascinating historical sites, including the nearby Snake Temple and the renowned Wonderfood Museum. While the advertised private room turned out to be a spacious shared accommodation, I appreciated the opportunity to meet fellow history enthusiasts. The friendly staff, who spoke both Malay and English, were always available to ensure I had everything I needed. For those considering a stay in Penang, Island Hostel offers a unique combination of comfort, accessibility, and a touch of local charm, making it an appealing choice for both solo and group travelers alike.
